چکیده

The purpose of this paper is to improve allocation of the number of bits without skipping the frame by accurately estimating the target bits in H.264/AVC rate control. In our scheme, we propose an enhancement method of the target frame rate based H.264/AVC bit allocation. The enhancement uses a frame complexity estimation to improve the existing mean absolute difference (MAD) complexity measurement. Bit allocation to each frame is not just computed by target frame rate but also adjusted by a combined frame complexity measure. Using the statistical characteristic, we obtain change of occurrence bit about QP to apply the bit amount by QP from the video characteristic and applied in the estimated bit amount of the current frame. Simulation results show that the proposed rate control scheme could not only achieves time saving of more than 99% over existing rate control algorithm, but also increase the average PSNR of reconstructed video for around 0.02~0.78 dB in all the sequences. Adaptive Macroblock Layer Rate Control for H.264/AVC Via Histogram-based R-D Estimation

In this paper, we propose a bit-rate control algorithm for H.264/AVC using the rate and distortion model estimated by the histogram of DCT coefficients. Since the proposed algorithm induces the rate and distortion model from the current macroblock instead of the previous coded frame or macroblock, it can effectively prevent the fluctuation of the output bits especially when scene change occurs,...

Accurate, Non-integer Bit Estimation for H.265/HEVC and H.264/AVC Rate-Distortion Optimization

Lagrangian Rate Distortion Optimization (RDO) is widely employed in modern video encoders such as H.264/AVC and H.264/AVC for mode decision. During the RDO process the distortion and bit rate of each mode has to be estimated and more an accurate estimation leads to better optimized decisions. This paper explores accurate, non-integer bit estimation and its impact on better RDO. Simulations show...

Enhancing the Performance of H.264/AVC in Adaptive Group of Pictures Mode Using Octagon and Square Search Pattern

This paper integrates Octagon and Square Search pattern (OCTSS) motion estimation algorithm into H.264/AVC (Advanced Video Coding) video codec in Adaptive Group of Pictures (AGOP) mode. AGOP structure is computed based on scene change in the video sequence. Octagon and square search pattern block-based motion estimation method is implemented in inter-prediction process of H.264/AVC. Both these ...

Rate Control in Video Coding

Rate control plays an important role in video coding, although it’s not a normative tool for any video coding standard. In video communications, rate control must ensure the coded bitstream can be transmitted successfully and make full use of the limited bandwidth. As a consequence, a proper rate control scheme is usually recommended by a standard during the development, e.g. TM5 for MPEG-2, TM...
